Editor/Author
Mark Nickerson, LICSW, is a psychotherapist, clinical consultant, and trainer with a specialty in trauma treatment. He has more than 40 years of clinical experience and is based in Amherst, MA, US. Nickerson is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the University of Michigan School of Social Work. He is a former president of the EMDR International Association, where he has served on the Board for eight years. He is a senior EMDR therapy trainer for the EMDR Institute. Nickerson conducts EMDR and other trainings nationally and internationally. Training topics include educational trainings and experiential workshops designed to explore cultural identity, address the effects of socially based trauma and adversity, dismantle prejudice and inspire socially responsive action. Trained as a social worker, Nickerson has a long-standing commitment to understanding personal issues within the context of family, cultural, and societal systems. Nickerson is author of The Wounds Within (2015: Skyhorse), an exposé on the challenges for war veterans and their families. The second edition of Cultural Competence and Healing Culturally Based Trauma With EMDR was published in 2023 (first edition, 2017).
